Since January I have served as Director of the Orthodox Union’s Job Board Program. This program lists hundreds of jobs across the United States. Its New York-area component, known as ParnossahWorks, is responsible for filling more than 650 jobs in the last two years. Now, the OU has gone national in its job placement efforts.
These programs have been created to deal with a serious concern in the Jewish community: unemployment. Unlike other communities, our jobless tend to be highly trained and educated. The unemployed range from people who have run companies to entry-level workers. Others are re-entering the market. Joblessness, as you well know, is a major personal problem, causing great anguish in families with serious repercussions on spouses and children, besides the job seeker.
