blessing on bread and wine

When you celebrate Shabbat and you have wine and bread together you are supposed to say the blessing over the wine first, but while you do it you have to keep the challah covered up so that it does not get jealous of the wine.Is it really true and is it written that things like food have feelings and desires? It is native American tradition of beliefs that ALL things have a spirit, such as all elements of nature are considered to be alive.. came to the above realization about...
