Skating On Thin Ice (The Jewish Week)
Jewish athletes were slow starters in the Winter Olympics. The first known Jews to win medals in the Winter Games were American Irving Jaffee (two golds in speed skating) and German Rudolf Ball ( bronze in ice hockey) at Lake Placid in 1932, the third time a Winter Olympics took place.
